Revolutionising sustainable shopping with the Targus AR backpack

Targus are always one step ahead when it comes to modern retail innovations, as retailers seek new ways to attract customers to stores while being more sustainably minded. They tasked big group with developing a wearable device that could showcase over 50 of their backpacks, reimagining the way we shop to benefit the customer and the planet.

Bigger thinking

We developed, manufactured and installed a ‘one size fits all’ AR experience, combining a virtual store with mixed reality so shoppers could discover the variety of backpacks on offer in an easy and personalised way.  

By slipping a bag on their back, the virtual full-body mirror allowed customers to swipe through the Targus backpack collections, change the colours and locate additional information via a giant touchscreen.  

Delivering excellence

The technology was a hit, with the new digitised way of shopping drastically reducing the volume of stock kept on site to a small 1m wide footprint, enabling retailers to reduce CO² emissions by as much as two tonnes. The AR backpack was further installed into the London and Dubai head offices, with a successful activation at the Customer Experience Showcase.
